What has COVID done to your creativity? Answers on a sanitized postcard…

Anybody else struggling to write in this pandemic?

I thought that an impending apocalypse would get my creative juices flowing, especially since two of my favourite films are Dawn and Day of the Dead by the late, great George A. Romero.

Weirdly, writing has taken a backseat to getting my fat ass in shape. I started the Couch to 5K in May after my stomach started to cover the space bar on my laptop, and I’ve kept running 5K three times a week since. So I’m fitter than I’ve been in years, and my mental health is good. That’s no good for a writer (hahaha aren’t stereotypes great?).

What the pandemic has done is given me time to plot future projects, jot down lines and ideas as they come to me, and wait by the rabbit hole until something pops out and I can maul it into something resembling ‘art’.

My last book came out in 2017, after a rush of creativity that saw me write four books in less than three years. Since then, I’ve dabbled in film (my first love) with two short films (one an award winner – aren’t I a clever tits?) and umm’d and ahh’d about what the next move should be.

I’ve got three projects that are circling like sharks, waiting to bite me in my pale white ass. Once that happens, I get hooked and I write fast. I’m hoping that 2021 will see a new book out in the world, maybe a couple of films, and a script or two sent out to ‘people’.

Saying that, I might say feck it and start running 10K instead.

Exciting times could be on the horizon, if the world isn’t wiped out by COVID, obvs.
